PROJECT PROFILE
University Pointe Student Housing
Location: Portland, OR
General Contractor: Walsh Construction
Challenge
American Campus Communities and Portland State University collaborated on the development of University Pointe, a new 16-story dorm facility built to house as many as 978 students.
Because of the unique rental arrangements the facility offers students, property managers have to be prepared to frequently re-key doors to the apartments, a potentially expensive proposition for American Campus.
Solution
American Direct helped American Campus incorporate Ingersoll Rand’s Schlage Programmable Electronic Deadbolts (SPED) when the product came onto the market midway through the project.
While the change order was complicated, it offered the client an affordable electronic access system that greatly improved the efficiency of managing the properties moving forward.
“Long term this system will bring American Campus a great cost savings in reducing management costs associated with re-keying every time a tenant moves out.”
