PROJECT PROFILE
Unaccompanied Enlisted Personnel Housing
Location: Fort Richardson, AK
Client: Watterson Construction Company
Challenge
Building new barracks in Alaska requires all of the attention to detail of a normal project plus consideration of extreme weather conditions — both in terms of supplying products that can stand up to the difficult environment and working under a tight construction timeline to avoid winter storms.
Those challenges were magnified when Watterson Construction Company found that its initial timeline on the project would have to be pushed back on account of a contaminated soil issue.
Solution
As one of the few suppliers with the logistical ability to work with a freight forwarder, American Direct was able to ship all of the specialty items — from hollow metal doors and frames with thermal break openings to extra-thick glass for the door cut-outs — to a Washington company that was able to rush delivery to the site.
With the seamless coordination from American Direct, Watterson was able to meet its delivery date even with a shortened construction window.
