Tobin Center for the Performing Arts

Challenge
When Bexar County voters approved $100 million in bonds to transform San Antonio’s historic auditorium structure into a new state-of-the-art center for the performing arts, project managers knew quality would be key.
The new Tobin Center would need to incorporate elements of the original building with cutting-edge modern designs to provide the most acoustically perfect performing spaces possible.
Solution
To ensure the absolute top acoustics possible in the center’s two performance halls, planners called for the use of high-end sound transmission class (STC)-rated doors and walls.
As the provider of hollow metal doors and frames and all door hardware on the project, American Direct helped identify and procure hard-to-locate specialty items that would fit the extra-thick STC door seals and gaskets.
