PROJECT PROFILE
Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal
Location: Atlanta, Georgia
Challenge
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is the busiest in the world in terms of total passenger traffic. So when the city embarked on a $1.4 billion, four-year expansion project to help accommodate that huge traffic volume, contractors had to conduct their work without disturbing the flow of this bustling transportation hub.
This included procuring and installing hardware for more than 1,000 openings in the new Maynard H. Jackson, Jr., International Terminal, which American Direct was hired to complete.
Solution
With a project this large — the new terminal had six distinct functional areas — and on such an aggressive timeline, coordination was of the utmost importance. American Direct assigned a project team to each of the six areas.
Each team worked closely with the general contractor and the airport administration to ensure product deliveries didn’t interfere with normal airport operations. Door frames were shipped directly to the job site during down times, but doors and hardware were shipped off-site to a rented warehouse for storage for up to one year, where the installer would receive the product, make an inventory of it, and then send it to the job site when it was ready to be installed.
