Clark and Grand Hotels

Challenge
At the intersection of Clark & Grand streets in downtown Chicago, sits a trio of hotels commonly referred to as Clark and Grand Hotels. The three hotels — all under one roof — are Aloft (Starwood), Hyatt Place (Hyatt), and Fairfield Inn and Suites (Marriott).
One build out process was planned meaning the guestroom floors and amenity areas of each hotel were built concurrently, rather than individually by each hotel brand. Accommodating three different brand standards was a unique challenge – for example, one required plastic laminate doors, the second brand required painted doors, and the third incorporated “barn door” type doors.
Solution
“We were able to accomplish this based on the team’s ability to incorporate the brand standards into the design documents during preconstruction,” said Lendlease Project Executive, Kinjal Patel. “That would not have been possible if the team had not coordinated that effort on the front end.”
To be sure that all of the finishes were correct, two mock-up rooms, per hotel brand, were built on-site so that all finishes could be reviewed and approved in advance. The result is an impressive and useful addition to the downtown Chicago landscape.
