PROJECT PROFILE

Douthit Hills at Clemson University

General Contractor: Holder Construction
Location: Clemson, SC

Challenge

What happens when there’s not enough university housing and a school has to turn away almost 1,000 students? That’s exactly the issue that faced Clemson University. Lack of available housing meant potential increases in campus traffic, campus parking issues, and less engagement on campus from upperclassmen. With Holder Construction, Clemson turned to American Direct to help solve the student housing shortage.

Solution

American Direct was selected to provide doors, frames and hardware as well as installation. American Direct created significant value on the front end of the project, helping Clemson and Holder select and source 2,300 doors and 1,200 bi-fold doors. The product package was then modified to include a pre-hung, paint-grade architectural design collection that saved Clemson at least $900,000. The project helped usher in a new are of student housing at Clemson University.
