Deep industry experience comes to the fore in managing 900-item product list for Devon Energy Center

The attention to detail needed to make the 844-foot tall, 52-story Devon Energy Center a fixture of the Oklahoma City skyline was no small task. And part of that task was finding a company to handle the procurement and delivery of more than 900 items needed for the openings and bathrooms in the huge new skyscraper.

American Direct was pleased to be chosen as the provider of Division 8 and Division 10 products for the project, which was managed by general contractors Holder Construction from Atlanta, Ga. and Flintco Inc. from Tulsa, Okla.

American Direct’s Division 10 Regional Business Unit Leader, Chris Anderson, spent more than a month consulting with architects and the project design team to develop the perfect product list.

“We spend the time up front, have a plan and have many discussions so that we are in 100 percent agreement that each product we will supply can meet the criteria and aesthetic requirements of the owner,” Anderson said.

Because of the scope of the project, it was no surprise to the American Direct team that there were daily adjustments to the original product list. But the American Direct industry veterans saw to it that the more than 1,000 changes were re-engineered in quick fashion so that no schedule was ever compromised. The American Direct team and their counterparts at Holder and Flintco were thrilled with the final execution.

Anderson says this project was the most challenging and complicated one he has worked on, but also the most rewarding.

“You have the challenge of working in a tight, downtown construction space combined with the extensive product list,” Anderson said. “But when you see it all come together, you know you were part of something special.”

American Direct provided quantities of more than 900 items for the bathrooms and openings on the project.
