American Direct helps Cal Poly South Student Housing project attain LEED platinum certification
USGBC’s core value is their commitment to transforming buildings, they believe every person deserves a better, more sustainable life.
For over 25 years the USGBC or the U.S. Green Building Council has been fulfilling this commitment by developing the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. LEED is the most widely used building rating system in the world; it provides a framework for healthy, highly efficient and cost-saving green buildings. American Direct was hired to assist with Cal Poly’s South Student housing. Webcor Project Engineer, Gagan Gowda, says that he received construction documents from the University with some specifications already defined, but he enlisted American Direct to provide value added consultation. “American Direct was our design assist partner on this project to help determine what the hardware specifications should be,” says Gowda.
One of the challenges was that Cal Poly was wanting to attain LEED Platinum certification, the highest level available. To do so they would have to work within strict guidelines to make sure the materials met certain requirements. Because American Direct is a doors, frames and hardware distributor in addition to security platform owner and national integrator, we were able to easily source certified doors, using wood from forests that were managed responsibly, for this dynamic student housing campus.
Our vision is to be the market’s most trusted provider of the design, implementation and analytics of total security solutions. We’re grateful to Webcor for allowing us to participate in this project and look forward to taking an active role in making buildings better and more sustainable.
