Challenge

Contractor Tetra Tech was hired to produce a new multi-story building that would feature 200 high-quality living quarters for wounded military personnel as they made their recovery. The site featured compact apartments that were often right next to each and close to noisy common areas.

Solution

The specifications from the owner did not include Sound Transmission Class (STC) doors. But because of the company’s experience with similar projects, American Direct suggested a door with a STC rating of 45 to reduce noise between apartments and more privacy for the residents, ultimately creating a more comfortable living space.
