The Navy needed a modern new facility for its enlisted men at the Naval Base Kitsap in the heart of Puget Sound — and it needed it quickly. The timeline for the new eight-story Bachelor Enlisted Quarters facility, which featured 150 four-person units and an accompanying 10-story parking garage, was less than a year-and-a-half from start to finish — extremely aggressive even for a military job. That challenge was compounded by the fact that the region experienced record snowfall and intense cold over the winter.
American Direct worked with contractor Absher Construction Co. to develop a sorting and delivery system that would provide for seamless installation of frames, doors and hardware. American Direct sorted and palletized the product by the floor they would be installed on at the new BEQ facility and shipped them directly to the job site. An American Direct employee was also on site to ensure product got where it needed to be when it needed to be there.
