Challenge
In America’s heartland of Davenport, IA, Kahl Home is a nonprofit community that has provided senior housing for the elderly of the Quad Cities since 1955 under the direction of the Carmelite Sisters for the Aged and Infirm.
In 2012, Kahl Home built a new state-of-the-art 138,000 square foot senior living facility located on a 40-acre site in northeast Davenport. Many areas in the new facility are distinctly different and one of the main goals of the design team was to create a home-like ambiance on the exterior as well as the interior so residents would feel more at home.
Several distinct door types were required: commercial grade doors with heavy duty hardware, top of the line exit devices, maintenance free exterior on doors yet with a residential feel interior, just to name a few.
Solution
By utilizing multiple door vendors, American Direct was able to satisfy all of the unique requirements of this job.
Fourteen of the door openings were special order custom doors because the architect suggested commercial grade hardware on a residential-type door, which is not commonplace. Additionally, with over 950 openings to complete and several door vendors being used, keeping delivery of product on schedule was indeed a challenge, but American Direct’s industry ties and project management expertise got it delivered on time to meet the deadlines.
